There has been a lot of interest shown in recent days over the fate of the M.V. Ever Given, the giant container ship that was stuck in the Suez Canal for a week, so let's look at some vital statistics:
• As you can see, the Ever Given is 1.33 U.S.S. Enterprises in length.
• If you are not happy with starships as an international unit of measurement, I can off you the red London double-decker bus as an alternative: the Ever Given is the equivalent of 47.6 classic Routemaster buses in length (these are the buses that were the mainstay of London transport for 50 years). The Enterprise equates to 36.3 buses.
• If we take our standard as the New Routemaster (which has been in use in London since 2012) then the Ever Given is 35.5 buses in length, while the Enterprise clocks in at 27 buses.
Please feel free to submit any mathematical problems you may have and our team will be pleased to help you.
In this week's Weird Tales Radio Show we look at the world of prepping – preparing for those disasters, natural or man-made, sometimes a bit of both, we hope will never happened. We are joined by Thomas Gomez, head of research at The Prepared, an excellent online resource for everything you could ever want to know about prepping – including reminders not to forget the can-opener before you lock yourself in your bunker!
Just stumbled upon this video of Dr Samantha George of the University of Hertfordshire talking about werewolves, folk horror and my book on the Wold Newton Triangle at a conference* in 2019. (*Conferences – come on, you remember what they were.)
Weird Tales Radio Show we have the concluding part of our interview with historian Richard B. Spence on the life, times and mysterious disappearance of Sidney Reilly, the Ace of Spies – and Ace of Double Crossers. We've also a tale of ghostly Roundheads & Cavaliers who walk at this time of the year and we learn about the Candle in the Wind spell – yes there is an Elton John connection.
And now for something different, instead of me interviewing other people, here's me (complete with mad lockdown hair) being interviewed late one night recently by Tony Sweet of Truth Be Told Radio about werewolves, dragons, leylines and folklore – the usual in fact.
In this week's Weird Tales Radio Show we are joined again by American historian Richard B. Spence to talk about the incredible career of Sidney Reilly, an international master spy from the first quarter of the 20th century. Was he working for the Japanese, the Russians or the British? Or was he working for all three and double-crossing all of them? Did he nearly end the Russian revolution before it began? And how on earth did he get involved with the Voynich Manuscript?
Here to inform and entertain you with tales of folklore, urban myths, history, geek culture and the weird. "Fun and high strangeness" is how one reader described it. May contain sarcasm.

Charles was born a 'chime child' with a caul – according to legend a caul-shrouded chime-child can't drown at sea but can see and talk to ghosts and fairy folk without fear of coming to harm – superpowers he's so far never needed to employ.
Weird Tales Radio Show now goes out on syndication across 40 FM & internet radio stations, as well as all major podcast platforms plus Spotify, Mixcloud, SoundCloud, TuneIn Radio, YouTube, RSS & Amazon Music.
