So anyway this last couple of weeks I've been mainly editing a poetry collection for Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association (SFPA) called Dwarf Stars (because they are all 10 lines & under). I displayed my Douglas Adams-style approach to deadlines (sorry people) and Jane Christian crafted the cover artwork (acrylic collage) which is getting a lot of praise from contributors.
It's the weekend and in this week’s Weird Tales Radio Show we've a creature feature special: our guest is American film-maker Seth Breedlove talking about his Small Town Monsters movies and TV series, which now include Bigfoot, Mothman, ghost hunting and UFOs. We've also stories on werewolves, fairy folk and Swinging Sixties-inspired demonology, plus midsummer folklore and solstice ghosts.
Here are the links:
Just for the record, today - 24 June - is not only Midsummer Day but also International Fairy Day, National Pralines Day (mmm... chocolate) and, in the US at least, National Handshake Day, tho presumably this year it has been renamed National Elbow Bump Day. Happy Whatever Day.
Although this is something only fans of M.R. James may get but tonight you really should read After Dark in the Playing Fields – ideally by flickering candlelight, just before midnight, in an owl-haunted meadow.
It's the Weird Weekend and in the latest Weird Tales Radio Show our guest psychologist Dr Gustav Kuhn, who runs the Magic Research Lab in London – are magicians' illusions now being used in marketing and by politicians to misdirect their audiences? We also revisit the Dyatlov Pass mystery and discover how Disney’s animated movie Frozen may hold the explanation. Plus much, much more.
In this week’s Weird Tales Radio Show (167) our guest is one of the UK’s leading experts on guns, ancient and modern (and now YouTube legend): Jonathan Ferguson, the Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the UK’s National Firearms Centre, which is part of the Royal Armouries museum in Leeds. He is taking us on a whistle stop tour of very dangerous toys for boys. Not only discussing the 27,000 plus pistols, rifles and machine guns in the museum’s collection, including some which would be not be out of place in steampunk movies, but also discussing how they are depicted, accurately or otherwise, in movies, TV series and computer gaming.
In this week’s Weird Tales Radio Show our guest is best-selling author and conference speaker Freddy Silva who is here to treat us to one hour of high strangeness as we discuss ancient mysteries, alternative history, Earth’s pre-Flood civilisations, sacred sites, ley-lines, and crop circles.
Here to inform and entertain you with tales of weirdness, folklore, urban myths, arcane history, geek culture and the occult. "Fun and high strangeness" is how one reader describes it. May contain sarcasm.
Curated by Reuters correspondent and barrister turned writer, podcaster, editor, award-winning tech journalist and sometime werewolf hunter Charles Christian. The site also has links to Charles' books and the Weird Tales radio and video shows.
Charles was born a 'chime child' with a caul – according to legend a caul-shrouded chime-child can't drown at sea but can see and talk to ghosts and fairy folk without fear of coming to harm – allegedly!
