We're living in dangerously weird times... smart people just shrug and admit they're dazed and confused

CraftTalk #101: 3 tips on creative writing by Cory Doctorow

At the recent Eastercon UK science fiction convention (Olympus 2012), Cory Doctorow – the blogger, journalist, science fiction author and co-editor of the BoingBoing blog – gave some interesting advice on creative writing during an interview session. Among his suggestions were...

* Try to write at least 2000 words a day if you are serious about writing a novel.

* Don't allow your writing to be held up by rituals and substances. Cory cited the examples of writers who say they need cigarettes, coffee, alcohol or even drugs before they can start writing. He said he's also known writers who have to have the right pen or mug or chair before they can get going. His view is don't be precious, just write – and in a worse case scenario, scribble down your ideas on a scrap of paper and transcribe them onto a computer (or whatever) later.

* Finally, he says never revise until you have finished the story.

    Weird Tales in Weird Times:
powered by green tea & pink wine

Here to inform and entertain you with tales of geek, folklore and the weird. "Fun and high strangeness" is how one reader described it. Prone to sarcasm.

Curated by Reuters correspondent and barrister turned writer, podcaster, editor, award-winning tech journalist and sometime werewolf hunter Charles Christian. The site also has links to Charles Christian's books and latest reviews plus his Weird Tales Radio Show.

Charles was born a 'Chime Child' with a caul – according to folklore, being a caul-shrouded chime-child means he can't drown at sea but he can see and talk to ghosts and the Fae (faerie folk) without fear of coming to harm. Superpowers he's so far never needed to use.

    Vital Statistics

Weird Tales Radio Show now goes out on syndication across 36 FM & internet radio stations, as well as all major podcast platforms plus Spotify, Mixcloud, SoundCloud, TuneIn Radio, YouTube, RSS & Amazon Music.
