OK, so Blade Runner 2049 is now out and getting rave reviews but what other influential science fiction and dystopian future movies are out there? We have links to three selections...

The best sci-fi movies to watch after Blade Runner 2049

Great sci-fi movies deal with the future, big ideas and (quite frequently) how something in space will try and kill you. If Blade Runner 2049 has reignited a passion for brilliant sci-fi, our list has something to keep it burning.

RANKED: The 17 best dystopian movies of all time

The sequel to the cult classic dystopian film "Blade Runner," "Blade Runner 2049," will hit theaters Friday. Denis Villeneuve's new addition to Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" is already being hailed as a visually captivating sci-fi masterpiece by critics. As the "Blade Runner 2049" hype intensifies, you might want to check out some other films with heavy dystopian themes.

Blade Runner 2049: Back to the Future - the movies that showed us what's to come

Blade Runner 2049, the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott's immeasurably influential vision of tomorrow, was released this week. And while the sci part of the sci-fi equation may be questionable in Scott's 1982 original, the production design felt so right to audiences that it has overshadowed almost every future-set movie since.

Curated by English barrister and Reuters correspondent turned editor, author, blogger, podcaster, award-winning tech journalist, storyteller, and sometime werewolf hunter Charles Christian. He writes, he drinks tea, he knows things. This site also has links to Charles' books and the Weird Tales Show videos and podcasts.

Descended from a motley crew of smugglers and rogues, Christian was born a chime-child with a caul and grew up in a haunted medieval house by the harbourside in the Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough. He now lives in a barn on a ley-line in rural East Anglia. His latest book is The Mysterious Wold Newton Triangle: Wraiths, Werewolves & Other Weird Tales from the Yorkshire Wolds (Haunted Landscapes Volume 2)

According to folklore a caul-shrouded chime-child can't drown at sea but can see and talk to faerie folk and also has protection against spells cast by malevolent sorcerers. And yes, he was once commissioned to go on a werewolf hunt on the night of a full moon by a newspaper. Spoiler alert: he didn't find one. (Or it didn't find him.)
