Here's an intriguing project that just landed on the Urban Fantasist desktop – it's Kickstarter project (see link below) to fund  a recording of the narration of The Curse of Yig, an H.P. Lovecraft and Zealia Bishop story first published in 1929 in Weird Tales Magazine, supported by a full score created by Freight Train Rabbit Killer. Ultimately the recording is a little like an audible book, but presented with an immersive musical background. Kind of a non-visual film project, or a solo radio play without the sound effects.

The story itself is set in the land-rush days of Oklahoma, and centers around a couple, Audrey and Walker Davis, who have set out to stake a claim in OK. His fear of snakes, and Lovecraft's introduction of Yig, the father of serpents into the already crowded Cthulhu mythos takes a decidedly negative turn for the young pair.

Freight Train Rabbit Killer, a doom folk blues duo from Kansas City, recorded the entire score in a single 43 minute take in Organica Recording in St. Paul earlier this year.

In addition, the artist Amy Ashier has painted a portrait of Audrey Walker for the cover of the recording. Audrey is the true victim of the story, is driven mad, and driven, ultimately (Spoiler Alert) to murder. So Amy wanted the portrait of Audrey (see prelim sketch) to show her on the edge, barely holding it together.

Check out the Kickstarter promotion – and support it now, time is running out.
